The Daily Evergreen’s Twitter profile picture change after the SCOTUS decision on gay marriage drew a lot of media coverage over the summer. There was some fallback as to whether or not the rainbow filter the staff applied to the photo took away some of its journalistic integrity.
Two staffers who were involved in that decision spoke about doing that and the feedback they received as a result. Their reasoning was interesting, especially when they brought up the fact that they had the Supreme Court backing them since it handed down the ruling. I found it interesting that they’d use that as support of a journalism ethics question. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
It was neat, though, to hear from other student journalists who dealt with negative feedback. Because, obviously, we’ve never received any at Elon.
