AUSTIN, Texas — As I promised, there’s my new dateline.
I’ve been fortunate to have had great experiences at internships each of the last two summers, the first with the Burlington Times-News and the other with The (Newport News, Va.) Daily Press. But there’s always a longing for more, and that’s what I hoped to get out of the first session I went to today, “How to Get the Most Out of an Internship.”
The three panelists shared their positive and negative experiences with interns at their publications, and gave some helpful tips in regard to writing cover letters. That seemed to be the main focus of their talks in addition to the questions asked in the seven-minute Q&A. The session also was bogged down by a tangent that lasted at least 12 minutes and included topics like Cuba and the Cold War — basically anything but internships.
