It seems like so long ago when my Pendulum crew and I wandered the streets of Chicago in search of FroYo, but alas, I’m back in North Carolina, and I’m ready to use the new knowledge I’ve gained from the ACP/CMA 2012 Convention to make our newspaper better than ever.
My overall impression of the conference was that it was extremely well-done. The majority of the sessions were very informative and professional (minus a few in which the speakers weren’t as helpful/entertaining as they could have been), and I loved that the organization of the conference allowed us to learn and do work during the day and then have time to explore the city and relax at night.
The diverse amount of sessions I attended gave me a good perspective on all areas of journalism, so I feel like I’ve come back better equipped with some new tools added to my toolbox. These tools include a better knowledge of design to finish out my time on the design team, as well as tips on story ideas, headline writing, leadership and time management to use if/when I hopefully take an executive position on staff in the future.
I’m so excited to see what’s to come next year on The Pendulum staff, and I’m happy to have had the chance to go to this convention to better prepare for my role on staff in the upcoming months. Hope to see you again soon, Chicago!
