One of the best parts of the ACP/CMA Conference is walking out of a session feeling like you’ve gained knowledge that you will really implement in the future.
That’s the feeling I had after my third session of the day: “Vision Quest: Choose Your Fate,” led by Mat Cantore of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, N.Y.
Mat’s approach to the session was really interesting. Many session leaders often choose to lecture for 45 minutes, leaving only a brief time for questions and input from the audience. But Mat built most of his session on the attendees’ responses to his questions. He asked us about some short-term and long-term goals that we had, both for ourselves and our media organizations, and then helped us figure out ways to establish and achieve those goals. He also encouraged us to recognize obstacles that may prevent us from achieving our goals, and how we can combat those as well.
All in all, I found Mat’s session to be very helpful. We are quickly approaching a new calendar year at The Pendulum, which means new leadership and an altogether new staff. I’m really looking forward to using Mat’s suggestions at The Pendulum next year, which I think will help our organization flourish for the next 12 months.
