Her Life in Sportswriting: The Story of a Sports Journalist

I am currently the Assistant Sports Editor for The Pendulum. I aspire to be the Sports Editor next semester. I don’t know if journalism is the final choice of career in my life, but right now it’s where God has put me.

As a sports writer, it was interesting to hear where sportswriting has taken Karen Crouse, a sportswriter for The New York Times. She has been in Riverside, Calif., Palm Beach, Fl., and eight other jobs. She told the story of how she got into journalism and a couple interesting story breaks including revealing to the public in 2005 that former New York Jets wide receiver Laverneus Coles was sexually assaulted as a preteen after breaking the barrier Coles built with the public by trading iPods. She also talked about writing on an extremely tight (two minute) deadline in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and Jason Lezak touched the wall first to seal Michael Phelps’ 8 gold medal-winning performance.

Quite crazy stories indeed for a sports journalist. Maybe a taste of what I have to look forward to.
