Nine student leaders of The Pendulum, Elon University’s daily news gathering organization, will attend the joint Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers conference Oct. 26-30, 2011, in Orlando, Fla., where they will attend educational workshops and network with media professionals.
Students in attendance will be:
- Anna Johnson (editor in chief)
- Rebecca Smith (managing editor)
- Jeff Stern (online editor)
- Sam Calvert (online managing editor)
- Caitlin O’Donnell (news editor)
- Rachel Southmayd (opinions editor)
- Ashley Fahey (features editor)
- Zach Horner (assistant sports editor)
- Natalie Allison (senior reporter)
Pendulum adviser Colin Donohue will also be in attendance.
In addition to attending workshops and sessions led by professionals from the media world and faculty members from communications schools nationwide, students will also network, take tours of media organizations around the city and have The Pendulum professionally critiqued.
The awards ceremony, which students will also attend, takes place Saturday afternoon. ACP awards the prestigious Pacemaker award, which recognizes overall excellence in student newspapers. The Pendulum Online was named an Online Pacemaker finalist, and the Pendulum editorial board was recognized with an honorable mention in the Editorial/Opinion category.
Check this blog regularly from Oct. 26-30 for updates from the students on the trip. They will be posting quick summaries/reflections after every session they attend.
