Three student leaders of The Pendulum, Elon University’s weekly student newspaper, will attend the College Media Advisers conference March 12-15, 2011, in New York, where they will attend educational workshops and network with media professionals.
Students in attendance will be:
- Rebecca Smith, managing editor
- Eva Hill, copy chief
- Kassondra Cloos, news editor
Pendulum adviser Colin Donohue will also be in attendance.
In addition to attending workshops and sessions led by professionals from the media world and faculty members from communications schools nationwide, students will also network, take tours of media organizations around the city and have The Pendulum professionally critiqued.
Students have already submitted entries to the Apple Awards competition, which recognizes the best newspapers, radio casts, newscasts, yearbooks and literary magazines from schools in attendance at the CMA convention. The Pendulum submitted its Sept. 29, 2010, issue in the Overall Non-Daily Newspaper category, its web site in the Overall Website category and a staff editorial about multiculturalism at Elon in the Column/Editorial category.
Check this blog regularly from March 12-15 for updates from the students on the trip. They will be posting quick summaries/reflections after every session they attend.
